'Becoming Ourselves As Leaders'
New Enquiry Group

'The process of becoming a leader is much the same as the process of becoming an integrated human being...leadership is a metaphor for centeredness, congruity and balance in one's life' (Bennis and Goldsmith, Learning to Lead)

We can spend a lifetime consciously trying to become 'fully integrated human beings'. The journey is no less significant for us as leaders.  In a climate of increasing accountability where stakeholders make conflicting demands on school leaders, and change is ever present, how can we remain true to ourselves as leaders?   Have we the confidence to be comfortable in doing leadership in our own way, or do we worry that our professional persona masks the true reality of our inadequacies?

Under the working title of 'becoming ourselves as leaders' this enquiry group is seeking to identify strategies which support individuals to have a greater understanding of themselves.  How they can hang on to their sense of being 'good enough'  as individuals so that, as leaders, they can accept rather than judge themselves.
